Homemade Face Masks LA

Los Angeles Area

Welcome to Homemade Face Masks LA! This group was created and inspired by similar groups around US trying to help medical staff in need.  This is not a formal group but created and moderated by a few individuals who would like to help. Each one of us here is responsible for ourselves.  We need volunteers to fill requests from medical workers and essential workers. Please use the two approved patterns on our FB  page.  Any other patterns may not be accepted by the groups requesting them.

Helping Our Providers with Protective Equipment

California

Independently organized by and for healthcare providers at SoCal area hospitals.

This is an informal, grassroots, ad hoc effort led by doctors, nurses, clinical support staff, friends, and neighbors. In addition to working directly with hospital and clinic supply chain managers, we are also happy to work with individual health care workers who are in need. We are here to help throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

Yes, we can hope that the supply chain can be repaired. But that takes time, and time is not a luxury we have. We need to Help our Providers with Protective Equipment - Now!

Relief Crafters of America

Pacific Coast/ World Wide

Relief Crafters of America (RCoA) is a volunteer-run group that serves to identify humans or animals in need and then direct our handcrafted fiber products to these groups to provide support.

We’re a grassroots collective seeking to provide short-term relief by mobilizing sewists, makers, and organizers to hand-sew and deliver masks to those affected by mask shortages.

The Altadena Mask Project

We’re a group of volunteers located in the Altadena area collecting, funding, making, and distributing PPE to healthcare and other frontline workers during the COVID-19 outbreak. We need makers, driver, fabric donations, as well as accepting money donations to help purchase supplies.

Mask Makers

USA

A resource for stitchers and sewers that wants to help create masks and assist with the current shortage. Here, you'll find patterns and be able to ask questions about how to correctly execute it. Sign up to assist or to request masks for your facility. Let's all pray this group is short-lived and the need for these masks is eliminated quickly.

PPE POSSE of Long Beach

Long Beach

Local makers in LB, sewing masks for medical professionals. If you're interested in joining the posse or donating, email us. We are working directly with requests for masks in LB, so we are asking for volunteers local to, or near Long Beach so we can easily and effectively coordinate our efforts.

Sew The Curve Flat

USA

Sew The Curve Flat is a network of volunteers who’s goal is to organize and aggregate the grassroots efforts of Home Sewists and match them with Hospitals and at risk communities in their area to provide Supplemental PPE in a crisis capacity. We want to provide the most current Best Practices, Most effective Patterns and a material list.

We are doing this because orders for standard/disposable masks are on long back-orders, due to both demand and supply chain issues. Hospitals across the country are reporting the same supply concerns.

This group, groups on this site and products on this site make no claims to being PPE compliant. Any protective gear made by volunteers or represented on this site or any affiliated social media are not manufactured to PPE standard. They are made out of various materials and there is no representation or claims to their ability to filter, block or protect against any pathogen or particle. Recipients are responsible to use their own judgement in deciding to utilize these products in any setting.

CDC, Crisis Capacity Strategies Section

In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g. bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to chin or below) and sides of the face.
