Grassroots Volunteer Groups

Making Protective Gear

If you are a Film Industry worker in Southern CA looking to volunteer, please head to our Facebook Page or sign up on our Volunteer List

To any volunteers who are not in Film Industry, please look through the several groups we have partnered with (starred links below) in Southern California. Each group has direct contact with either Hospitals, Doctors, Medical Workers or Essential workers in need. Please note, some groups may have specifically required masks or shields and may not be able to accept different types. Please check with any group you join what pattern/materials they require.

Are you running a volunteer group making masks, especially in Southern California, please click here to contact us, and get added to our resource list.

Support Local Businesses making Coronavirus protective gear

Do you know a local business making masks. Send us their info so we can add them to the list.

Suay is a community supported remade sewing shop in Frogtown, Los Angeles. We lean on our community to provide livable wages to low income and immigrant workers.  Now we want to help support our community in return.  We are already starting to produce masks in accordance to CDC recommendation of replacement when N95 masks are unavailable.

We developed this reusable, protective mask in concert with Dr. Robert Cho, Chief of Staff of Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena, CA, and have transitioned our factory in Vernon, CA to begin producing these critical supplies.
They are not direct substitutes for N95 surgical or procedural masks and are not FDA approved. However, these masks, if used correctly, should help reduce person-to-person droplet transmission of the virus.

Large Scale Providers Looking to Help

These businesses or individuals are able to run large scale operations, but are waiting for permits, approved patterns, or contact info for potential leads on both. Please only contact if you are a Hospital, State, or Federal contact, or have a serious reference to those organizations.

Timeless Threads- Los Angeles

A cutting house and factory that has the ability to make 10,000 masks a weeks to whatever specs needed at reasonable cost. We need a PO and letter from a hospital saying we are working to make essentials. We have tried submitting a proposal to the city, but so far no response.

3D Printers Group - Los Angeles

Point of contact for hundreds of 3D Printers. We are looking to connect directly with a Hospital or State Medical Representative to begin printing approved items that can be immediately utilized.

This site was made by volunteers and is run by volunteers. Please be patient as we are updating to stay as current as possible. For Mask/Shield/Protective Gear resources please visit the groups listed here.

This group, groups on this site and products on this site make no claims to being PPE compliant. Any protective gear made by volunteers or represented on this site or any affiliated social media are not manufactured to PPE standard. They are made out of various materials and there is no representation or claims to their ability to filter, block or protect against any pathogen or particle. Recipients are responsible to use their own judgement in deciding to utilize these products in any setting.

CDC, Crisis Capacity Strategies Section

In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g. bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to chin or below) and sides of the face.
